We are just weeks away from the end of 2018, but this is a perfect time to take stock of all the great Smartphones that came out this year. Though there are so many great phones to cover, we are just going to cover three of the releases: the Apple iPhone XR, Samsung Galaxy S9, and the OnePlus 6T.

Apple iPhone XR

I had to cover this phone since I got it with my upgrade recently. I was stuck in the “stone age” with the iPhone 6S that had a cracked screen. Finally, after suffering through countless days with a disfigured phone screen, I was able to get my hands on an iPhone XR.

Of the new iPhones, it is the most affordable. However, that doesn’t mean that it is cheap all around. While the screen is shy of Full HD capability, its greater battery life is noticeable. I would have to constantly charge my iPhone 6S throughout the day so it wouldn’t die. The iPhone XR can go a whole day, if not more, depending on how much I use it. Its camera is not as good as the more expensive models, but if you are a normal picture taker, it will get the job done just fine.

Samsung Galaxy S9

This Smartphone beats out the iPhone XR when it comes to screen resolution quality. It comes standard with 1080p, which makes things view on the phone look fantastic. However, it too has its own shortcomings. For one, its battery life is a bit disappointing when weighed against other smartphone models. But its camera is far superior to the XR. When you compare it to its predecessor, the S8, there aren’t many upgrades save for the few things we have outlined here. To some, this may not be worth the price point.

OnePlus 6T

This upgrade for the OnePlus comes with some new features that make it a great deal at its current price point. Firstly, the screen was upgraded, with 1080×2340 resolution. Along with this is an under-screen fingerprint scanner. Its battery life is better than the Samsung Galaxy S9, for it can easily go through an entire day. As for its camera, it has two sensors that make it superior to the Apple iPhone XR that only has one sensor. It has a 16MP wide-angle camera and a 20MP secondary sensor. In sum, it is an affordable alternative to the more expensive Samsung and Apple phones.

Final thoughts

If you are like me and needed an upgrade, find out what deals you have with your carrier. The best deal for me was with the iPhone even though I wanted to switch it up and go with a Samsung. But I can safely say that I am satisfied with my new XR. These are just a few of the phones that came out this year. However, they highlight some of the great options that are available to those who might be searching for a gift for their family.
