Many people who buy a Mac over a PC think that their device is less likely to get a virus. However, no matter if you use a Mac or a PC, you still need to be protected properly from threats. Recently, a German independent testing lab, called AV-TEST, put twelve different MacOS security tools through a program to see which ones could be the most successful at defending against malware. Unfortunately, two thirds of the security tools did not perform at one hundred percent. Here are the four tools that did make the cut.
AVG Antivirus
A well-known name in the antivirus software realm, AVG antivirus was not only able to detect one hundred percent of any malware the company attacked with, but it was also able to remove the malware samples entirely. Some of the features that this product is know for is having “triple coverage.” It not only protects your Mac from viruses, but it also makes sure none of your other devices do not share viruses with each other. It also will make sure you do not get any viruses from the devices of your friends.
Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac
Bitdefender is also a name you might have heard before. This software performed just as well as AVG antivirus, and will ensure that you do not have to worry about malware threats. Currently listed at $34.99, it comes with all the protections that you would expect. One feature that it comes with is a VPN. Some antivirus software companies are trying to bundle their software with a VPN option to allure new customers. VPNs are a great way to maintain your privacy while you are browsing online. We discussed this in greater detail here.
SentinelOne Next Generation Endpoint Security Software
Not as well known in the antivirus realm, SentinalOne’s software performed very well in the tests. It was able to stop one hundred percent of all threats that were thrown at it with only a one second increase in load time. It was able to block nearly 700 different potentially unwanted applications that were used in the test. To learn more about their product, follow the link here.
Sophos Home
Sophos Home is currently free and preformed just as well as the other software we have on this list. If you download the free version of this software, you will also get a thirty-day free trial of their premium version which is only $35.00 to upgrade. The upgrade comes with everything you get with the free version as well as advanced ransomware protection, privacy protection, 24/7 support, and will protect up to ten different devices.
Never again lose a device to a malware attack. There is no reason why you should not be protected. With one of these four options we have listed here, you can ensure that your devices have the best armor on at all times. Start by researching each product and determine which one suits your needs and budget.
